After 8 fabulous years, Tanna our long time Musical Director, has returned to her beloved homeland of Denmark to spend some quality time with her family.
Sally Lockett (Director - Voices of Birralee Gold Coast Division and Music Director - Sounds of Birralee, Gold Coast) generously stepped up at short notice and has taken over the reins.
Sally comes highly recommended and very highly qualified. She completed a Bachelor of Arts Music (Voice and Guitar) at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, before completing a Postgraduate Secondary School teaching qualification in Music and English at Cambridge University, England. She was also a member of the Cambridge University Music Society under the direction of Stephen Cleobury. Whilst in England, Sally was involved in choral performances at King’s College Chapel, Ely and Salisbury Cathedrals and the Royal Albert Hall. At Cambridge, she participated in workshops conducted by John Rutter, building on musical knowledge gained in Australia where she had worked with such leading choral conductors as John Nickson, Andre Thomas and Rodney Eichenberger.
At the age of 22, Sally was Director of Music at a secondary boys’ school in Salisbury, England, and was a member of the Salisbury Musical Society (Directed by David Halls). Returning to Australia, Sally worked at St Peters’ Lutheran College, Brisbane, before moving to the Gold Coast. As Choral Coordinator and Primary School Music Teacher at A.B. Paterson College, Gold Coast (1998-2001) Sally was devoted to developing the College’s Choral Program, and had great success with the Primary School Choirs. During this time, she was guest choral conductor in the Gold Coast Primary School Music Fest
Sally is well known on the Gold Coast for her effervescent personality and her well regarded musical achievements involving various local school and community ensembles. Sally is currently a music teacher and choral conductor, principally at The Southport School. As Director of the Gold Coast Voices of Birralee program, and conductor of Sounds of Birralee (a young adult ensemble), she shares her passion for artistic excellence and her love of choral music with some remarkable young people and the wider community.
WELCOME SALLY...It is indeed a pleasure to have you on board.
